DM 11.1 Rationale
Cardiovascular disease is the major cause of morbidity and mortality
in people with diabetes, and coronary heart disease is the most common cause
of death among people with Type 2 diabetes. Many people with Type 2 diabetes
have an increased coronary event risk even if they do not have manifest cardiovascular
disease.
Hypertension is associated with an increased risk of many complications
of diabetes, including cardiovascular disease. Blood pressure should be measured
at least annually in patients with diabetes.
